about

W.O.E. is the Oakland-based experimental electronic project of Brian Tester and JaMile Jackson. Formed in late 2016, W.O.E. designs concepts and musical systems using accessible electronic instruments and hardware. Harnessing these devices, they create technology-mediated organic environments that explore the multiplicity of human existence. The duo builds complexity out of simplicity by intertwining simple patterns into evolving rhythms and rich sonic textures. Their newest L.P., Ultrawarm Indices, is the first in a series of concept-guided musical inquiries: Can everyday machines allow musicians to paint evolving landscapes? Can technologically be constrained systems sing with feeling? What is a beat? Ultrawarm Indices tests the notion that electronic rhythms can be generated from traditionally non-rhythm-generating sources, in this case, analog and digital polyphonic synthesizers.
